FINAL SCORE

No. 13 Michigan State 77, Indiana 64

Indiana has now dropped its second consecutive game, missing yet another opportunity to improve its standing. The Hoosiers are trending towards the wrong side of the NCAA tournament bubble.

SECOND HALF

Final media timeout: Michigan State leads 72-62.

Lamar Wilkerson has been on fire in the second half, scoring a total of 29 points so far.

The student section has been vocal today, expressing their displeasure with Reed Bailey, who has faced boos every time he entered the game. However, they shifted to sarcastic cheers during his latest appearance, turning genuine after a few good plays.

Despite Indiana’s efforts, they face a significant challenge. The team has fought hard in the second half, but Michigan State has maintained their lead.

MSU is ahead 69-57 with under eight minutes remaining.

Indiana has managed to cut the deficit to five points multiple times, but Michigan State has consistently responded with crucial shots. Kur Teng has been a standout for MSU, scoring 18 points on 6-for-8 shooting, all from beyond the arc.

Lamar Wilkerson continues his impressive performance, adding 14 points since halftime, bringing his total to 24. He entered the game just 15 three-pointers shy of tying Steve Alford’s single-season record of 107, set in 1987. Alford achieved that in 34 games, while this is Wilkerson’s 29th game of the season.

Sam Alexis briefly exited to the locker room but returned quickly and is back in the game.

57-50 Spartans at the under-12 media timeout.

Indiana is showing more fight in the second half, outscoring MSU 13-12 since halftime, but they need to keep pushing harder.

Tucker DeVries has stepped up, scoring 18 points, his highest since the Rutgers game in late January, proving crucial for IU today.

FIRST HALF

Darian DeVries called a timeout with IU down 39-26 with 4:22 left in the half, prompting some boos from the crowd.

This timeout followed Kur Teng’s fourth three-pointer of the half, where he skillfully baited Tayton Conerway into jumping too early before sinking the shot.

It’s hard to pinpoint anything positive for IU in this first half; Michigan State has dominated.

At the under-8 timeout, MSU leads 30-20.

Tucker DeVries is leading IU with eight points, tied with Nick Dorn for the team lead in rebounds with two.

Jaxon Kohler is leading MSU with 14 points on 4-for-5 shooting, and IU has struggled to match up against him. The size mismatch is evident, especially with both Sam Alexis and Reed Bailey in foul trouble.

MSU is shooting 64 percent from the field and 4 for 7 from three-point range, while Indiana is struggling at 28 percent from the field and 3 for 14 from beyond the arc. This has contributed to their double-digit deficit.

At the under-12 timeout, IU is already down 21-10.

IU had a brief 5-0 run, highlighted by a Tucker DeVries layup off a turnover, which got the crowd excited. However, Michigan State quickly responded.

Overall, Indiana appears overmatched, struggling on both offense and defense. The Hoosiers are having difficulty against MSU’s switching defense, and their own defense is losing track of assignments.

MSU leads 11-5 at the first media timeout.

Darian DeVries was visibly frustrated with his team’s defensive performance early on, and it’s understandable given the open looks Michigan State has been getting. The Spartans started 4 for 5 from the field.

IU’s offense is cold, hitting only 1 for 7 from the field. There’s still time left, but the early signs are not encouraging.
