Nick Schmaltz Signs Eight-Year Contract Extension
Nick Schmaltz has signed an eight-year contract extension with the Utah Mammoth, a deal valued at $64 million, which translates to an average annual value of $8 million. This significant commitment underscores the Mammoth’s confidence in Schmaltz’s abilities as a key player for the franchise.
At 30 years old, Schmaltz is enjoying a remarkable season, having recorded 24 goals and 35 assists for a total of 59 points in just 65 games. His performance has not only established a new single-season career high in goals but also contributed to his impressive +21 rating this season.
Since entering the NHL in the 2016-17 season, Schmaltz has played 653 career games, accumulating a total of 482 points, which includes 166 goals and 316 assists. His journey began when he was selected 20th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2014 NHL Draft, and he has since made a name for himself in the league.
Schmaltz’s collegiate career at the University of North Dakota was marked by success, including helping the team secure its eighth national championship in the 2015-16 season. His contributions have extended beyond the college level, as he has also represented the United States in multiple international tournaments.
