    What is Elastos?

Elastos is dedicated to creating a brand-new virtual digital smart economic zone based on the traditional basis of the Internet. The design philosophy of elastos originated from Chen Rong, the former senior software engineer at Microsoft. He strived to develop the world’s first Internet Operating System in 2000, and put forward the basic idea that there is “no need for computation if online and no need to be online if computing .” It was subsequently developed as an open-source operating system, with its source code reaching 10 million lines (github.com/elastos). In 2017, the blockchain technology was integrated into elastos, enabling the development of the Smart Web.

The Smart Web can be explained by its four pillars:

    – Blockchain & Smart Contract. A blockchain enables the establishment of trust on the operating system.
    – elastos Carrier. The elastos Carrier is a completely decentralized P2P network platform. It is very important infrastructure, and supports elastos for DApp development and operation.
    – elastos Runtime. The elastos Runtime runs on top of its customer’s device, ensuring a reliable runtime environment. Developers will be able to build an elastos DApp with a digital currency broadcasting feature.
    – elastos SDK. Conventional applications can extend their capability through an SDK. The SDK includes modules for authentication, trust records, and other typical blockchain functions.

The vision is for elastos to become a blockchain aircraft carrier which will support large-scale decentralized applications.

Keynote Speaker: Mr Rong CHEN, Tsinghua University iCentre

Rong Chen graduated from Tsinghua University, Beijing, in 1982, with a BEng degree in Computer Science. Rong received his MS degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 1987, also in Computer Science. Rong had focused his research interests on operating systems and object-oriented programming models since 1985. He was a Microsoft veteran of 1992-2000. He collaborated in the development of a Microsoft Research OS kernel, IE3 ActiveX, Ole Automation, DCOM, .NET among other projects.

Rong founded Kortide in 2000 in Beijing, to design and to implement his own operating system, Elastos, from scratch, including boot loader, kernel, graphics, network, browser, etc. In 2004, Rong became CEO of Kortide, and the whole Elastos team had moved to Shanghai to design Elastos version 2.0 for Smartphones, which was finished by the end of 2006.

May of 2013, Elastos received new founding from Foxconn Group to design an OS for Industrial IoT and smart-homes, hoping to provide an open source version of a service-oriented and reflection-based (meta-data driven) framework in C/C++ to facilitate the future of Universal Apps.

June of 2017, Rong and friends launched the Elastos Foundation for crypto-tokens, to turn Elastos into a decentralized Internet OS, relying on blockchains to authenticate user IDs, application IDs, as well as machine IDs. To build a flourishing ecosystem, anybody may feel free to implement his/her own markets, social apps, search engines, location based services, advertisement agents.

    About Elastos Foundation
Elastos is the world’s first Internet operating system focusing on re-decentralizing Internet with blockchain to secure identity. Utilizing the Internet as the base-layer infrastructure rather than as an application, the Elastos approach emphasizes that network communications should be separated from application computing, and prohibits apps from direct access to the network to prevent viruses and other malicious attacks such as DDoS.

Elastos is an open source system with over 4 million lines of original source code, and has received significant investment from the Foxconn Group, NEO, and other industry giants for its R&D. Supporting programming in C/C++, Java, and HTML/JS, Elastos facilitates the new generation of universal apps running anywhere, including AR/VR headsets, IoT gateways, PCs, and cloud servers.

    Speakers:

Dr. Feng (Sunny) Han, Board member of Elastos. Feng is one of the most reputable blockchain thinkers in China, respected and recognized by tens of thousands of blockchain and cryptocurrency enthusiasts. At Tsinghua University, he initiated the postgraduate modules on Cyber Intelligent Economy and Blockchain. Feng’s book “Blockchain: On Quantum Wealth” was a 2017 best-seller on Amazon China. He also led the translation and editing of “Blockchain, Blue Print of a New Economy” in 2014, which was the first book about blockchain in China. Feng is an advisor to the Huawei Research Institute, blockchain development at Alibaba, and is also a member of the Tencent Talent Pool.

Dr. Rong Chen. Rong is a professor for postgraduate modules in Cyber Intelligent Economy and Blockchain at Tsinghua University. As one of the most respected Tsinghua alumni, Rong worked at Microsoft from 1992 to 2000, during which he led the teams of Microsoft Research OS, IE3 ActiveX, Ole Automation, .COM, and .NET. He proposed various new ideas on the technology of Operating Systems 30 years ago and waited three decades to start initiating real progress by combining the technology behind Windows 10 and the development of blockchain. It is now possible to make an OS environment safer and more efficient. When he left Microsoft, Rong started working on the Elastos OS. Over the years, Elastos was financially supported by Foxconn, the Chinese Central Government, Tsinghua University, and most recently, a pre-ICO. Rong had been invited by the former Premier of China to speak at the Great Hall of the People about his work on Operating Systems.

    ABOUT:
Elastos was built specifically to handle the stress of running large, decentralized applications that require a lot of storage and computational power. It has over ten million lines of source code, the backing of industry leaders ($31 million USD in 2013) like Foxconn, Tsinghua Science Park, and the TD-SCDMA Industrial Alliance, and support from the founders of NEO and other open access / decentralization leaders.
