TCU women’s basketball falls to West Virginia in Big 12 championship

“It was very important,” said Jordan Harrison after leading West Virginia to a 62-53 victory over TCU in the Big 12 championship game on March 8, 2026, in Kansas City, Mo. Harrison’s performance, which included 21 points, earned her the title of Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.

Despite being the top seed in the Big 12 tournament, TCU struggled to keep pace with West Virginia. Olivia Miles led TCU in scoring with 17 points, but it was not enough to secure a win. TCU’s head coach, Mark Kellogg, acknowledged the challenge, stating, “We knew we needed to score more than 50.”

West Virginia’s victory marks a significant achievement as they earned the Big 12’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament. This win is particularly notable as West Virginia previously won the Big 12 tournament in 2017.

TCU, which reached the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament last season, is projected as a two seed in the upcoming tournament. The team had an impressive scoring differential of +732 overall this season and averaged 78.3 points per game, ranking 21st in college basketball.

The selection show for the NCAA tournament is scheduled for March 15 at 7 p.m. on ESPN, where TCU will learn their first-round matchup, which will take place on either March 20 or 21.

Mark Campbell, TCU’s head coach, expressed pride in his team’s accomplishments despite the loss, saying, “This hurts, but I’m so proud of what our program’s accomplished.” His sentiments reflect the resilience and determination of the TCU women’s basketball program.

As the team prepares for the NCAA tournament, they will look to build on their strong season and make a deeper run than last year. The upcoming weeks will be crucial for TCU as they aim to capitalize on their potential and showcase their skills on a national stage.
