Kenneth Walker’s Transition to Kansas City
Kenneth Walker III, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks after being drafted at No. 41 overall in 2022, has officially signed a three-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. The deal is valued at up to $45 million, with $28.7 million guaranteed.
Walker, the Super Bowl MVP for Super Bowl LX, had an impressive performance in the 2025 season, recording 1,027 rushing yards and five touchdowns. His ability to make significant plays is expected to bolster a Chiefs team that ranked 25th in rushing yards last season, with Kareem Hunt leading the team with only 611 rushing yards.
In his final season with the Seahawks, Walker averaged 4.4 yards per carry and scored a total of 31 touchdowns throughout his career. His postseason contributions were notable as well, with 417 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns in three playoff games, including a standout 161-yard performance in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid acknowledged the team’s need for improvement in their running game, stating, “Somewhere, you’d like to have a few bigger plays in that area.” Walker’s arrival is seen as a solution to this issue, providing the Chiefs with the big-play ability they have been lacking.
Walker confirmed the news of his signing on social media, sharing a photo of himself in a Kansas City uniform. Observers note that the reigning Super Bowl MVP is transitioning from one title-winning team to another, which could further enhance his performance.
As the Chiefs look to rebound from a disappointing 6-11 season, Walker’s addition is a significant step towards revitalizing their offense. However, uncertainties remain regarding Patrick Mahomes’ status for the start of the season. Details remain unconfirmed.
Additionally, the Chiefs will have to navigate the absence of Zach Charbonnet, who tore his ACL during the playoffs and may miss half the upcoming season. This situation further emphasizes the importance of Walker’s role in the team’s plans for the future.
