Cole Strange signs with the Los Angeles Chargers
Cole Strange has agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Chargers on a two-year contract worth $13 million. This signing marks a significant move for the Chargers as they look to revamp their interior offensive line after losing both starting guards.
Strange, a former first-round pick of the New England Patriots in 2022, played 14 games last season for the Miami Dolphins, all as a starter. Over his career, he has participated in 44 games, with 43 of those being starts, showcasing his reliability on the field.
Most of Strange’s playing time has come at left guard, where he logged 1,546 snaps, but he has also seen action at right guard (808 snaps) and center (117 snaps). His versatility will be an asset as the Chargers seek to strengthen their offensive line.
Strange’s journey in the NFL has not been without challenges. He suffered a torn patellar tendon in late 2023 and was subsequently released by the Patriots before the start of his third season. Despite this setback, he is now looking to make a fresh start with the Chargers.
During his college career, Strange was a five-year starter at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he became the highest-drafted player in the history of his program. His experience at the collegiate level has prepared him for the demands of the NFL.
This signing reunites him with Mike McDaniel, who previously coached Strange in Miami. Observers note that Strange likely arrives with the promise of being in the mix for a starting guard job, as McDaniel identifies him as a needed piece while looking to install his new blocking schemes.
The Chargers have also bolstered their offensive line by signing center Tyler Biadasz to a three-year, $30 million deal, indicating a clear commitment to enhancing their protection for the quarterback.
As the offseason progresses, the Chargers will be looking to integrate Strange into their system effectively. Details remain unconfirmed regarding how quickly he will adapt to the new environment and the specific role he will play.
