What changes are coming to Fortnite?

Epic Games is raising the price of Fortnite’s in-game currency, V-Bucks, to help cover increased operational costs. This change will take effect at the start of the next battle royale season on March 19, 2026.

The price adjustments will see the $8.99 pack now offering 800 V-Bucks instead of 1,000, while the $22.99 pack will provide 2,400 V-Bucks instead of 2,800. Similarly, the $36.99 pack will now include 4,500 V-Bucks instead of 5,000, and the $89.99 pack will offer 12,500 V-Bucks instead of 13,500. Players subscribed to the monthly Fortnite Crew membership will also see their V-Bucks reduced to 800 from 1,000.

Why is Epic Games making these changes?

The company stated that “the cost of running Fortnite has gone up a lot,” prompting the need for this price adjustment. This move is part of a broader strategy to maintain the game’s financial viability.

In addition to the V-Bucks price increase, Epic Games has announced that Fortnite Save the World will transition to a free-to-play model on April 16, 2026. This change aims to welcome more players to the game across various platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Sales of the current version of Save the World will end on March 11, 2026, at 8:00 PM ET. Current owners of the game will continue to receive their founder’s benefits, including V-Bucks.

What limitations are there?

However, it is important to note that the original Nintendo Switch and mobile devices will not support Save the World due to technical limitations. According to Epic Games, “the building and AI functions need technical resources which those devices lack.”

After the transition to free-to-play, players will still be able to earn V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, and Storm Shield Defense missions.

As Epic Games implements these changes, players will need to adjust to the new pricing structure while also preparing for the arrival of free-to-play content in Save the World. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional features or changes that may accompany these updates.
