“Gathering weekly in every class helps deepen gospel learning by connecting it more closely to personal and family study,” said President Paul V. Johnson, highlighting the importance of consistent engagement in religious education. This statement comes as the First Presidency of the LDS Church announced adjustments to the Sunday class meeting schedule, set to take effect on September 6, 2026.
Under the new schedule, both Sunday School and quorum meetings will be held weekly, each lasting 25 minutes. This change aims to foster a more robust learning environment, allowing members to delve deeper into gospel principles. Meanwhile, the sacrament meeting will continue to be 60 minutes long, providing a structured time for worship and reflection.
In addition to these changes, Primary classes will maintain their 55-minute duration every Sunday. The adjustments are designed to support members in becoming lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ, emphasizing the importance of regular participation in church activities.
These changes come on the heels of the two-hour Sunday schedule implemented in January 2019, which was intended to provide individuals and families with increased opportunities for home-centered gospel study. The church’s leadership believes that the new weekly meetings will strengthen gospel learning both in homes and congregations.
President Camille N. Johnson remarked, “There is additive strength that comes when we meet each week to counsel, learn, and support one another.” This sentiment reflects the church’s commitment to fostering a supportive community where members can grow together in their faith.
Starting September 6, 2026, the curriculum for Young Women classes and Aaronic Priesthood quorums will also shift to the updated “For the Strength of Youth” guide, which consists of 12 chapters. President Timothy L. Farnes noted, “This guide will help youth walk in confidence, rely on His power, and move forward with hope in a challenging world,” indicating the church’s focus on equipping young members with the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges.
Additionally, weekly Relief Society and elders quorum meetings will center on messages from the most recent general conference, ensuring that discussions remain relevant and spiritually enriching. Members are encouraged to seek meaningful ways to enhance their worship experience during sacrament meeting, fostering a deeper connection to their faith.
As the church prepares for these changes, the fifth Sunday in August 2026 will be dedicated to preparation and discussion among youth, their parents, and leaders, further emphasizing the church’s commitment to involving families in the educational process. Members across the world have embraced these changes with faith and enthusiasm, looking forward to a renewed focus on gospel learning and community support.
