High Wind Warnings Across Western Montana
High Wind Warnings are currently in effect for most of western Montana from midnight Wednesday night until 6 PM Thursday. Damaging wind gusts exceeding 50 mph are anticipated, with isolated mountain gusts potentially reaching up to 80 mph.
The warnings cover several regions, including the Kootenai/Cabinet Region, Flathead/Mission Valleys, Missoula/Bitterroot Valleys, Potomac/Seeley Lake Region, Butte/Blackfoot Region, and portions of central, north central, and southwest Montana.
In addition to the warnings, High Wind Watches have been issued for areas such as the Livingston Area, Beartooth Foothills, and several others across the state. These watches indicate the potential for severe wind conditions.
A powerful atmospheric river is set to impact the Northern Rockies from late Wednesday through Saturday, bringing not only strong winds but also heavy precipitation. Wind gusts of 60 to 80 mph are possible in eastern Montana on Thursday, and the storm could produce winds up to 95 mph along the Rocky Mountain Front.
As the atmospheric river approaches, significant temperature fluctuations are expected across Montana. This weather system is forecasted to bring 2-6 inches of wet snow at lower elevations, while the high country above 5,000 feet could see 20-40 inches of snow.
In the highest elevations of northwest and west-central Montana, snowfall could reach as much as 3-6 feet. Additionally, the Lower Clark Fork Region may experience 1-4 inches of snow at lower elevations.
The atmospheric river is moving directly from the Pacific to Montana and the northern Rockies, leading to these extreme weather conditions. Observers are closely monitoring the situation as the storm develops.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact impact of the storm, but residents are advised to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions.
