Aaron Jones Agrees to Revised Contract with Minnesota Vikings

“Jones has agreed to cut his base salary to $5.5 million as part of those changes,” reported Tom Pelissero, highlighting the significant adjustment made by the veteran running back.

Jones’ new one-year deal is now set at $5.6 million, which includes $5 million guaranteed, according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus. This marks a notable reduction from his initial scheduled salary of $10 million for the 2026 season.

The decision comes after a challenging 2025 season for Jones, who played in 12 games and rushed for 548 yards and two touchdowns. His performance was hindered by a hamstring injury that caused him to miss five games, resulting in his lowest total of 747 yards from scrimmage since his rookie year.

In 2025, Jones served as the No. 2 running back behind Jordan Mason, a significant shift from his previous seasons. He had enjoyed a successful stint with the Vikings since joining the team after seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers, where he became the franchise’s third all-time leading rusher with 5,940 yards and 45 rushing touchdowns.

The Vikings were reportedly prepared to release Jones if no trade occurred before the cap-compliance deadline, indicating the urgency of the situation. “The sides agreed on a reworked deal that positions the veteran running back to play a third season in Minnesota,” noted Sam Robinson.

Jones has had four 1,000-yard rushing seasons in his career, including a career-high of 1,138 rushing yards in the 2024 season. His ability to bounce back from injuries and maintain performance will be crucial for the Vikings moving forward.

As the team prepares for the upcoming season, the focus will be on how Jones adapts to his new contract and role within the Vikings’ offense. With the restructuring complete, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how this impacts his performance on the field.
