James Gracey, a 20-year-old student at the University of Alabama, was reported missing after a night out in Barcelona. He was last seen at Shoko, a beachfront nightclub, around 3 a.m. on March 17, during a visit to see friends studying abroad for spring break.
Tragically, Gracey was found dead in the waters off Somorrostro beach in Barcelona. His body was discovered after his wallet was found floating in the water, raising concerns among his family and friends.
Authorities have confirmed that foul play has been ruled out in this case. Gracey’s family expressed their heartbreak, stating, “Our family is heartbroken as we confirm that Jimmy’s body has been recovered in Barcelona.” They noted that it was completely out of character for him not to check in with family and friends.
The University of Alabama also expressed condolences, with a representative stating, “Jimmy’s loss is deeply felt across our campus.” Gracey was a junior at the university and a graduate of Saint Ignatius College Prep in Chicago.
