A powerful tornado struck Mineral Wells, Texas, on April 28, 2026, causing extensive storm damage and prompting a citywide curfew. The tornado, which the National Weather Service preliminarily rated as EF-2, injured several residents and left approximately 2,200 customers without power.
Emergency responders reported that two individuals were taken to Palo Pinto General Hospital for treatment. The storm left behind a trail of destruction, including downed trees, leaning power lines, and significant debris scattered across the area.
That context matters because the tornado hit just west of Fort Worth, affecting a community already vulnerable to severe weather events. Mineral Wells is located about 45 miles from Fort Worth, making it part of the North Texas region frequently impacted by storms.
The storm wreaked havoc on local infrastructure, damaging an industrial park by shredding buildings and roofs. As emergency crews continue to assess the situation overnight, officials have implemented a curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. in heavily impacted areas.
Mineral Wells Fire Chief Ryan Dunn stated, “The storm appears to have been a tornado,” confirming its destructive nature. City officials emphasized that during this curfew period, people are not permitted to travel or remain within the impacted area unless authorized.
While there were no critical injuries or fatalities reported at this time, the exact number of injuries remains unclear. Emergency responders will continue their evaluations as they work to restore safety and normalcy in the community.
