Power Outages in Western Washington

More than 70,000 people were left without electricity across western Washington due to strong winds that have swept through the region. The outages have significantly impacted major utility providers, including Puget Sound Energy, Snohomish County PUD, and Seattle City Light.

As of the latest reports, Puget Sound Energy indicated that approximately 62,200 customers were without power, while Snohomish County PUD reported about 11,400 outages. Additionally, Seattle City Light noted that roughly 2,500 customers were affected.

The wind gusts, reaching speeds of 40 to 50 mph, have caused significant damage, including a tragic incident where one person died after a tree fell on a car near Monroe, Washington. Utility crews are currently working diligently to restore power to affected customers as quickly as possible.

By 10 p.m. Wednesday, Puget Sound Energy reported that the number of customers without power had increased to 53,044, while Snohomish County PUD reported 12,745 outages. The situation remains fluid as crews assess and respond to the damage.

In addition to the windstorm, a Blizzard Warning is in effect for the Washington Cascades until 5 a.m., indicating that the weather conditions may continue to pose challenges for restoration efforts. The National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory for the evening, further complicating the situation.

This windstorm comes as the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges face a Winter Storm Warning and a rare Blizzard Warning. These severe weather conditions have created a challenging environment for utility companies and emergency responders.

As of March 11, 2026, Puget Sound Energy reported 11,423 customers without power in Whatcom County, highlighting the ongoing impact of severe weather on the region’s infrastructure.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the damage and the timeline for power restoration. Utility companies continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as they become available.
