“It was a good message from some of our staff and leaders in terms of the approach that we need to have every day that we come out here,” said USC football coach Lincoln Riley, reflecting on the team’s commitment to accountability during spring practice.
USC Women’s Golf made headlines recently by winning their fourth consecutive title at the PING ASU Invitational, finishing with an impressive score of 841, which is 23 under par. This victory marks a significant achievement for the team, reminiscent of their previous four consecutive titles during the 2013-14 season.
At the tournament, Cal State Fullerton’s Davina Xanh claimed the individual title with a score of 208, eight under par. Notably, USC had all four of their scorers finish in the top 10, showcasing their depth and talent on the course.
As the women’s golf team celebrates their success, the USC football team is also making strides. Coach Riley emphasized the importance of effort, stating that 95% effort is the minimum expected from players during practice. This focus on accountability is crucial as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
Jide Abasiri, a key player on the football team, echoed this sentiment, saying, “We just have to be better prepared.” He also mentioned the importance of mentoring younger teammates, stating, “Just being an older guy, I feel like it’s important for me to … help them just come along.”
Riley noted that the team has yet to conduct many live returns in practice, indicating there is still work to be done before the season kicks off.
Looking ahead, USC Women’s Golf will compete at the prestigious Augusta National Women’s Amateur from April 1-4, a significant opportunity for the athletes to showcase their skills on a global stage.
Meanwhile, the football team is gearing up for a promising season, having landed the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation for the first time since 2006. This achievement is expected to bolster the team’s performance in the coming years.
In other news, the Longwood softball series with USC Upstate has been adjusted due to expected inclement weather, with a new start time set for the series-opening game.
As both teams continue to make headlines, fans are eager to see how these developments will unfold throughout the season.
