“Gerald R. Ford remains poised for full mission tasking in support of national objectives in any area of operation,” stated the U.S. Navy as the USS Gerald R. Ford departed Split, Croatia, after undergoing repairs following a fire incident onboard.
The fire, which occurred in the laundry and berthing areas, injured two personnel and affected around 100 sleeping berths. In total, approximately 200 sailors were treated for smoke exposure during the incident.
After a five-day port visit, the USS Gerald R. Ford was declared combat-ready. This marks a significant milestone for the carrier, which has been deployed since June 2025, operating across various theaters including the Arctic, Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Red Sea.
